Our precious mother, sister, aunt and grandmother Sharon Faye Red Thunder went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on October 6, 2025, with her family by her side.
Sharon was born on May 24, 1945, in Poplar, MT to Jeanette Cloud and Lester (Jim) Youpee, Sr. Mom was raised in Brockton and Poplar, MT and was a 1963 graduate of Brockton High school. She married Calvin Red Thunder, Sr. on December 12, 1967, in Wolf Point, MT. They lived in Brockton and Poplar eventually made their home in Poplar. She had five children; Sheldon Youpee, Calvin Jr., Denise, Angeline and her grandson Jared Standing whom she raised as her son. Sharon worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the Probate Department for over 20 years and retired in 2003. She also sat on the enrollment committee for several years. She started the Turns Around Pow Wow 18 years ago and was still very active as a committee member until her passing. Mom ran for the Tribal Executive Board in 2003 and sat on the seat for two years. She loved her community, the people, and thought the best way to serve them was to serve on the Tribal Board. She also sat on the Poplar Community Organization board for over 10 years. Sharon loved life and lived it to the fullest, she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and enjoyed riding around with her sister Dolly, her granddaughter Ronalee, her niece Jodie Boyd and with her Baby Angeline. She loved to travel and went to Las Vegas and many other places. Mom was very intelligent and knowledgeable in many things. She was a pillar of strength for her children, nieces and grandchildren. She loved everyone unconditionally and did what she could to help anyone in need! Mom loved the color yellow, drinking a coke or ginger ale, doing crossword puzzles, playing bingo, going to Trenton to play machines, and spending time with her family. She loved to laugh and have a good visit.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Angeline ( Miguel), son Calvin "Chick" Jr., Grandson Jared (Stacey) Standing, granddaughters Jen'Ette Standing and Shanel Red Thunder. Sisters, Kate Youpee, Millie Runs Through and Jamie Youpee. Grandchildren; Tommy Day, Brandon Lezard, Sean, Jim and Maria Youpee, Seth Headdress, Maria and Denise Lopez, Canaan and David Boyd, Habakkuk Boyd, Jay, Hannah and Gabrielle Weinberger, Maschil, Chance and Joseph Boyd, Madison Kidman, Joey Boyd and Kenzi Boyd, and granddaughter Ronalee. Nieces; Debi , Valerie, Jodie and Machelle Boyd, Waynette Boyd and Sharon (Ash) Kidman, Millie Runs Through and Wendy Clark. Nephews; Wayne Jr (Mia) Boyd, Samson (Ann) Boyd, Raymond Track, Ira Track and Marion Runs Through, Jr., and Eric Bruiger who she took as a brother. Numerous aunts, cousins and relatives on both sides of the family, the Youpee's, Cloud’s, Young's, Red Boy’s, Little Heads, LeMay's, Montclair’s, Black Dog’s, Longee’s, Rattling Thunder’s, and Lester’s.
Sharon is proceeded in death by her Husband Calvin Red Thunder, Sr., parents Jeanette Cloud Youpee and Lester "Jim" Youpee Sr, daughter Denise Red Thunder, son Sheldon Youpee, her brothers; Joe, Russell ”Gus”, Gary, Lester “Big Son” Jr., and her favorite baby brothers, Bob Sr. and Tommy because she wanted another sister but ended up with two brothers. Grandpa said “Well, here, these are your babies”. And then when she got a sister, she didn’t want any more. Sisters; Dolly Boyd, Linda Red Boy and Delores Red Boy. She is also preceded in death by her infant granddaughter Tiffany Rae Youpee, brother-in-law Wayne Boyd, Sr., nephews; Joseph Boyd, John “Thunder” Red Thunder, Jr., Kenny Devereaux, Jr., Rocky Clark; nieces, Valerie Youpee, Dani Jo Youpee, Grace Hotomanie, and Jamie Red Thunder.
A prayer will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 15 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, October 16 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
