Ronald Joseph Yellow Hammer Jr (September 20th, 1957-September 12th, 2025) Wambdi Wakandiya (High Eagle) Sioux Traditional name.

Ronald Yellow Hammer Jr, age 67, left this world unexpectedly, but peacefully at his home in Brockton, MT on Friday, September 12th, 2025.

Our Dad, grandpa, brother, great grandpa Ronald J. Yellow Hammer Jr was born September 20, 1957 in Poplar, MT. He was the beloved son of Ronald YH & Carole Spotted Bird, both deceased. Ronald was raised by his grandma Nancy Two Shields of Cannonball, ND on the Standing Rock Reservation.

Ronald went to school various places. He attended Mormon school in Idaho during the Mormon placement his 7th & 8th grade years. He then went back to Poplar High School his freshman year of school, and went back to living with his grandma Nancy where he attended Solen High School in Solen, ND. He then graduated Solen High School in 1975. After he graduated high school, he enlisted in the Army in 1975, but was honorably discharged in 1976. Both of our parents; Ronald & Sandra Yellow Hammer graduated from UTTC (United Tribes Technical College) with their AAS degrees.

During his time attending Solen, he met the love of his life, our mom Sandra Yellow Hammer, and soon after mom graduated, they got married October 14th, 1977. From this union came six children and niece that they raised since she was 6 months old as their own. Our parents (Ronald & Sandra YH) moved to Montana in the 1980s where they made their home and raised all seven of their children.

Ronald was working with the Fort Peck Tribes Community Service Program as the elder meal delivery. He worked 12 years and 4 months for the Community Service Program, as dad/papa had to retire in 2023 for a year, but came back to work for the elder program again as he worked all his life so staying home was not an option. Dad/papa had previous jobs in his years of life, he worked at A&S Industries for over 10 years, The Fort Peck Youth Detention Center as a Correctional officer, he was a cop, and he was a firefighter with our mom, Sandra, for many, many years. Dad lived his life to the fullest up until his passing.

Our dad/papa loved his wife, whom passed on 9 years ago and now is reunited with, as he missed her a lot in the past years. Dad/papa enjoyed Powwows and listening to music. He had a variety of music which included old country, but what he listened to a lot was our drum beat powwow music. We loved that our dad/papa always enjoyed family time, cook outs and just visiting. He would always make homemade chili or bean soup in which he would call or text you, “It is done, come eat.”

He loved to go to sporting events especially when his grandchildren were involved in them. You would catch him at basketball games. Dad/papa was a fisherman and hunter in his younger years of his life. He would take his children our fishing, and provide meat for the family when he would go out hunting.

Our dad/papa was a devoted father. He was always there to offer guidance, love, and a hearty laugh. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence at holiday and celebrations brought warmth and joy to those around him. Our dad/papa legacy of being who he is will forever will be etched in our hearts.

Our dad/papa Ronald is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grands. Oldest to the youngest, with their children and grandchildren, great grands. Jennifer (Matthew) Rattling Thunder. Our dad/papa was a man that never complained about anything or anyone. He just did his best for you in any circumstances.

Dad/papa, you will be forever missed. When you left this world, you took a piece of us with you. As we know, you are reunited with our mom/Bama as she has been waiting for you or you could not wait to see her. Thank you for being our dad/papa as we would not ever change that.
