Richard Harvey Campbell, Jr.

July 22, 1984 — November 4, 2025

Billings

Richard Harvey Campbell Jr. (41) was called to the final table in the sky on November 4, 2025 in Billings, MT. Richard was born on July 22, 1984 in Wolf Point, MT to Richard Harvey Sr. and Doreen Brown.

During childhood Richard was lucky enough to spend time with family across the reservation while his dad was fighting fires including the Ackerman Family (Frazer), Campbell Family (Wolf Point), Robinson Family (Wolf Point) and his Big Horn/Brown families (Brockton).

Richard has done many great things in his life but his pride and joy came from his children. At 19, Richard welcomed Hamyanie Elizabeth — she was the light of his life. His namesake Richard Harvey III came a few short years later. Followed by 2 more boys Rylan Cruz and Jathyn Thomas, a baby girl Jacie Jo and a fourth son Chiilaabee Harlan. Richard enjoyed watching all of his children’s hobbies from acting to pretty much any sport, always teasing that they got their athletic abilities from him.

Richard was a sharp shooter — Good at almost anything he tried. Harvey was the coach of his wrestling era which took them travelling to many places. Richard was a 5-time AAU Wrestling National Champion. He was a one-time international wrestling champion spending his 12th birthday wrestling in Tokyo, Japan. As a freshman, he was a kicker for the Wolves Varsity football team. In high school he was a “damn good pitcher” and first baseman for the yellowjackets. Harvey recalls him having a left-hand curveball that nobody could figure out.

Richard’s passion lit up on the pool table. Richard was always seen carrying a pool cue and ready to run the table. He was a pool shark known across the state for running racks and holding many individual and team titles. Playing pool also sparked another hobby of gambling — he was always “getting lucky”. With his passions Richard made many new friends who have become family.

In high school he worked at Taco Shack and construction with his Uncle Mackie. After graduating from Wolf Point High School in 2003 he was a wildland firefighter with his dad Harvey. He was also a route driver for Nemont Water. Richard found his calling when he went to work at Aspen Curbing and Landscaping for the past 18 years. He liked telling people about how smooth and precise his work was. Through his work he met his boss Hal Pavelis who Richard grew to love like a dad.

Richard was preceded in death by his Mother Dorreen Jo Brown; two sisters Heather and Felisha Campbell; daughter Jacie Jo; Paternal Grandparents Malcolm Campbell and Jane Ackerman Baird; Maternal Grandfather Tom Brown Sr; Grandpa Windy Ackerman, Uncle Mike “Macky” Campbell, and step brother Eli Magnan.

Richard is Survived by his Grandmas Alva Big Horn of Brockton, MT and Betty Campbell of Hays, MT; Father Harvey (Monica) Campbell; Daughter Hamyanie Elizabeth (Bryor Smith); Sons Richard Harvey, Rylan Cruz, Jathyn Thomas, Chiilaabee Harlan; Sisters Colleen Campbell, Harmoni (Sage) Campbell, Marlana Black Dog, Marcella Black Dog, Martina Black Dog; Stepsister Arleda (Lloyd) Quiroz, Stepbrothers Lucio Quiroz, Doratello Fischer and James (Casey) Magnan; Uncles, Troy Brown, Wes Brown and Tom Brown Jr., Barrett Welch, Weylin Campbell Smith, Lester Campbell; Aunts, Krystal Brown, Margaret Campbell, Jewel Four Star, Lisa Ackerman; Special cousins, Landyn Ackerman and Sarah Brown and special friend Sarina Old Bull along with many relatives and friends from all over.

Thank you to anyone who has shared a memory. Please remember Richard as the funny, confident (and cocky) pool shark who loved you all. To anyone we may have missed, we are truly sorry. Please allow us grace during this difficult time.

A prayer service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, November 13 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, November 14 at the Brockton Cultural Center. He will be laid to rest beside his daughter, Jacie Jo at the Fort Kipp Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
