With the heaviest of hearts, the family of Mikaela Jayde Uchtman—fondly known as "Gumpy"—shares the passing of a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Mikaela left this world on July 25, 2026, in Billings, Montana, at the age of 31, leaving behind a legacy radiant with light, kindness, and resilience.

Born on May 4, 1995, in Wolf Point, Montana, Mikaela’s story began in the beauty of the northern prairie. She grew up surrounded by family who cherished her, and her early years foretold the tenacity and compassion that would define her life. From a young age, Mikaela faced adversity in her education. She was told that learning would always be a struggle—that school might be too great a challenge for her. Undeterred by such predictions, Mikaela persevered with unmatched determination, attending Lustre grade and Lustre Christian High. With courage and relentless effort, she not only overcame every obstacle but ultimately graduated as Valedictorian—a source of pride and inspiration for all who knew her. Never one to stop learning, Mikaela later pursued online college courses, always reaching for new knowledge.

Mikaela poured her heart into everything she did. She worked side by side with her dad in the oil fields, embodied responsibility as bookkeeper at Albertson’s, the lumber yard, and a local hospital, and eventually found joy in her favorite role at the post office in her beloved town of Frazer. Everywhere she went, Mikaela brightened others’ days with her infectious smile and boundless warmth. Her daily goal was simple yet profound: to lift the spirits of everyone she encountered. She became known for her exuberant greetings, her open-armed hospitality, and her remarkable generosity—no one left her kitchen hungry, and her celebratory meals during holidays welcomed anyone needing a place to belong.

Gifted in countless ways, Mikaela was an artist whose pencil drawings and paintings amazed those around her. She found solace in music, and some of her fondest moments were spent in a car packed with friends, the music blasting, singing and dancing as if the world itself was their audience. These memories are cherished dearly—testaments to her deep love for togetherness and joy.

Above all, kindness guided Mikaela’s steps. Her love for animals, especially dogs, was remarkable. She rescued countless dogs, nurturing them and ensuring they found safe, loving homes. Even in her passing, Mikaela continued to give. As an organ donor, she gave the most precious gift of all: life. Through her kidney donations, two people received a chance at renewed life—her final, selfless act mirroring the way she lived.

Mikaela’s journey was also marked by deep and abiding relationships. She married Jimmy Reum, the love of her life, and though their relationship ultimately changed paths, the love they shared remains an important part of her story.

The void she leaves in the hearts of her family is immeasurable. Carrying her memory forward are those she loved fiercely: her grandfather Don Traeholt and grandmother Eileen Traeholt, her father Leon “Kerry” Uchtman, and her mother Linette Uchtman. She is missed dearly by her siblings—Eddy, Erin, Danielle, and Harmonee Uchtman, and Derrick Simons with his wife Sarah—as well as by her cherished nephews, Henry and Carter, her niece Bella, and her step-daughter Jeina, whom she affectionately called "Coconut". Her heart adopted many brothers and sisters from around the world, she left behind many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to name. Each life she touched will forever hold her mark; her spirit, compassion, and laughter will never fade from their memories.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Mikaela’s life at a viewing on July 30, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. at EMB Church, 347 Wall Street, Lustre, Montana. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the same location, with interment at EMB Cemetery immediately thereafter. In honor of her bright soul, the family will be wearing colorful clothing for all events and invite others to do the same.

Though Mikaela Jayde Uchtman’s time on earth was far too brief, her impact and love endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She inspired others through her grit, kindness, and capacity for joy. Her life is a testament to the power of compassion and the difference one soul can make in the world.
