Matthew (Matt) Paul Black Eagle made his journey home in the evening of October 10, 2021, with his brother Tom by his bedside, at the Wolf Point Trinity Hospital due to health conditions that he had been battling.
Matt was born on September 12, 1963, to Donna (Hopkins) and Thomas Black Eagle in Glasgow, MT. He grew up in the Nashua – Wolf Point area, he attended Nashua elementary and high school. Matt was a member of the Red Bottom Clan and enrolled member of the Fort Belknap Reservation.
Matt was a kindhearted, loving man, a one-of-a-kind soul, with many miles under his feet. He was a man with many talents; from fishing, hunting, construction work, powwow trails, singing with drum groups, sharing his stories and being a helping hand for his people – to name a few. He’s held many jobs throughout the years, in the 80’s early 90’s he fought many fires, then in 93’ for a while he worked in Alaska on processing boats, and even for a short period of time he owned his own business he named “Black Eagle Construction”.
On October 08, 1988 Matt was united in marriage with Alison Mann, they resided in Wolf Point, MT and together they were blessed with four beautiful babies, Jory, Tal’on, Coy, and Mattia. A few years down the road he met Sophie Andersin and they welcomed four beautiful babies to the world, Thunder, Theaira, Acacia, and Samantha.
One of the most memorable things about him is he always had a story to tell you, no matter who you were, he had one just for you. You never knew what you’d get at the end of it, either an Indian name or wonder why you’re giving him a couple bucks. He also had a love for rocks and to him it meant the world to gift a specific rock he picked out for each and every one of the kids. Those gifts will be greatly missed on the special days.
Our dad will always be remembered as a great man with such a humorous personality, and we are very thankful for the time we’ve had to spend with him. We will all love and miss you and thank you for everything you have taught us. Until next time, Ol’ Skinner.
Matt will be remembered and missed by many. Grateful to have shared his life with his children Jory, Tal’on, Coy, and Mattia Black Eagle of Wolf Point, MT, Brittany Black Eagle of Sioux Falls, SD, and Thunder, Theaira, Acacia, and Samantha Black Eagle of Poplar, MT; Grandchildren, JoriLynn, Kingston, Ax’ton and Rory Black Eagle of Wolf Point, MT; Brothers, Tom Black Eagle of Wolf Point, MT and Mark Black Eagle of Billings, MT; Sister, Kimberly Black Eagle of Wolf Point, MT; as well as numerous uncles, auntie, nieces and nephews.
