Marilyn Jean "Jeanne" Charette, born Marilyn Jean Spotted Bull, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026 at the age of 75.
Jeanne was born on October 30, 1950 to Allen and Esther (Walking Eagle) Spotted Bull. She was born and raised in Poplar, Montana where she resided her entire life. She graduated from Poplar High School in 1968. In May 1974, she married Duane "Fats" Charette.
She dedicated many years of her life to serving her community. She worked for Poplar Public Schools for 15 years, followed by 25 years with the Fort Peck Tribal Courts. After a long and fulfilling career, she retired and enjoyed the slower pace of retirement. She especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren, creating special memories and enjoying the time together.
Our mom was a woman of quiet strength and grace. Reserved by nature, she was not one to seek the spotlight, but her presence was always noticed. She had a wonderful sense of style and took pride in looking her best, She was fashionable, elegant, and always had her own way of putting things together. Her appearance reflected the care and individuality she carried throughout her life, mom valued her privacy and enjoyed the simple comforts of life. She had a gentle, independent spirit and a way of quietly observing the world around her. Those who knew her will remember her for her unique personality, her strength, and the quiet impression she left on the people around her.
She is survived by her son, Quincy (Denise) Charette of Poplar, MT; daughter, Ona (Hunter) Steele of Tucson, AZ; one grandson, Chance Steele of Tucson, AZ; granddaughters, Brooklyn Steele of Tucson, AZ, Denae and Erin Red Eagle of Wolf Point and Billings, MT; great granddaughter, Laila Saddler of Wolf Point, MT; brother, Ronald Spotted Bull of Poplar, MT; a very special niece, Sheila Spotted Bull of Poplar, MT; nephews, Wayne (Marlo) Spotted Bull of Fort Yates, ND, Allen (Jessica) Spotted Bull of Poplar, MT, Norman Vondall, Richard (Cleo) Vondall of Grand Portage, MN; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended families Spotted Bull, Walking Eagle and Kennedy.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane "Fats" Charette; her parents, Allen & Esther Spotted Bull; brothers Harley Spotted Bull and Mario "Romeo" Carillo; sister, Belva "April" Vondall; nephews, David Vondall, Trevor Vondall, and Travis Spotted Bull; special aunt, Vicky Spotted Bull Azure.
A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 1 at the Assembly of God Church in Poplar. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 2 at the Assembly of God Church in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
