Marietta “Babe” Four Bear went to her heavenly home at the age of 92 in Wolf Point, Montana on August 9th. Marietta Judy was born on May 21, 1933, to George and Katherine (Red Eagle) Blount in Brockton, MT. Marietta lived in Brockton/Fort Kipp area in her early years. She attended school in Brockton, MT, graduating from Brockton High School in 1950.
In 1953, Marietta married Donald Todd and welcomed sons, Darrell, Al Rodney, and daughter Kayleen. They later divorced and she moved back to Brockton. Marietta met Rudolph “Wixie” Young and they had Wayne Little Crow. She later met and married Raymond Four Bear in 1972 and they remained together until his passing in 2008.
Marietta enjoyed spending time with her grandmother, Lucy Little Crow Red Eagle, until Grandma Lucy passed in 1954. Marietta was fluent in the Dakota language She was blessed to have many memories and stories to tell of Grandma Lucy. She was a member of the Lloyd Red Eagle Memorial Presbyterian Church and was also a member of the Ladies Aid group held every Thursday. Marietta would attend along with her mother, Katherine and aunts Alice and Rita who were also members.
She loved attending basketball games, bingo, powwows and family get-togethers. Marietta’s pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being around her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Marietta also loved watching NBA basketball games and her movies until the wee hours of the morning. Another passion of hers was making star quilts by hand and later sewing machine. She was a gifted star quilt maker. Marietta worked for the HeadStart program in the 1970’s and later for Brockton School as a cook and teacher aid, a job she loved.
Preceding Marietta in her passing are her parents, husband Raymond Four Bear, son-in-law, Dale Headdress; brothers Dennis, Dean and George Blount Jr and Robert Black Dog; sisters Pearl Four Bear, Arlene Standing, Lucille Blue Earth and Rita Talks Different; sons Darrell, Dennis Alden, Al Rodney Todd and Wayne Little Crow and baby daughter who was a still born at birth; aunts Alice Buck Elk, Clara Blount and Rita Belgarde; uncle Philip Red Eagle Sr and grandson Kyle Headdress.
Marietta is survived by her daughter Kayleen Headdress; special granddaughter Luane Pearl Four Bear Brown whom she raised as her own; adopted children Bernadette Wind, Darlene Buck Elk, Diane Lambert, Loren Boadle and Kevin Adams, Robert Campbell and Ernie Lambert; grandchildren Norma (Emerson) Young, Anthony and Lane Headdress, Darrell Todd Jr, Tamara Todd Jefferson (Brandon Jefferson), Douglas Todd, Jasara and Iva Todd, Trudy Bird (Brian Eder); great grandchildren William and Ronni Prichard, Toni and Emma Brown, Alexis Marietta, Kaydence and Karmen Headdress, Greysen, Harper, Emerly and Amariah Young, Kaiden and Ashlyn Lafromboise, Houston Dean and Brooke Jefferson, Treyden, Sadie, Hailen, Braiden, Shaidyn, Leena, Devyn and Lydia, Brian Jr, Hally, Aiyanna, Quinten and Brylee Eder and great great granddaughter Kazzley. And all the extended family, too many to mention.
Marietta will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, but we know she is resting in peace and she is with her family that went before her.
