Julie Azure passed away on May 13, 2024 at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point. She was born on May 18, 1964 to Ervin Azure and Donna Mae Boyd in Baker, Montana.
Julie was a hell of a ball player. She was put on to the men’s team at Frontier when women were hardly allowed to play anything. Julie mainly worked as a bartender, and worked at the Elks as a cook. Between that she and her pool league teammates, Wally Schaefer, Pie Jackson, Jackie Moran and her cousin Theresa Iron Cloud, were undefeated pool champions for 7 years. After she’d win a tournament, she’d give away her coats to somebody in need of one. She’d serve free drinks at the bar to her friends. She would have fun cruising around being a window warrior with friends and her daughter Whit in her “big blue” van. She would attend church from time to time as it reminded her of her mother Donna Mae Nelson.
Julie is preceded in death by her mother Donna Mae Nelson; father Ervin Bruno Azure, who passed away when she was 6 years old; her brothers Robert Azure and Melvin Azure; her nephew Jason Azure and her auntie Mryna J Boyd and many others.
She is survived by her baby girl, Whitney Azure (Wylie RunsThrough); her sons Brutas “Handsome” Azure and Justin (Aulora) Azure, Sr., whom she called Bernard; grandchildren Raven Lilley, Juells Bauer, Justin Azure, Jr., Auraeleeya Azure, Daniel Azure and El’eah RunsThrough Azure.
A wake will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the New Community Hall in Wolf Point. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the New Community Hall in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery.
