John “Thunder” Joseph Red Thunder, Jr., was born on December 7, 1971 to Linda Red Boy and John Red Thunder, Sr., in Poplar, MT. He went to be with his mother on February 14, 2014 in Billings, MT surrounded by his family.
Thunder, as he was known to most everyone, grew up in the communities of Poplar and Brockton. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a man of many hobbies as he was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed fixing cars, playing bingo and machines, spending time with his kids, grandkids, and various family member and visiting. He was well known for always being there to lend a hand to those who needed it.
Throughout his life he worked various jobs including firefighting, CSP Supervisor, Law construction, West Electronics, and a guard at Corrections.
He is survived by his children, son, Daniel (Dani) Red Thunder; daughters, Jennifer (Shantre) Red Thunder, Jenna (Tony) Red Thunder, all of Poplar, and Mystical R of Malta, MT; grandchildren, Jaycob Daniel Red Thunder, Keisha Ann Figueroa, Kylie Rose Figueroa, Antwan Christopher Figueroa, Ashton J. Figueroa, Asher Blaine Figueroa, Kelby Louise Escarcega, and Nathan Richard Escarcega all of Poplar; sisters, Coleen Devereaux, Grace Devereaux, Johnelle Red Thunder, and Jamie (Clarence) Red Thunder, all of Poplar; grandpa, Jim Youpee; and brother, Kevin Devereaux and half-brothers Mitch and John Franklin of Standing Rock, ND. He is also survived by a special niece, Joni Jones; nieces, TeAira Fast Horse, Jamelle Kennedy, Timberly Devereaux, Kristen Clark, Dolly (Eugene) Belgarde, Maurrita Devereaux, and Trista Devereaux; nephews, Kaine Fast Horse, Sonny Fast Horse Jr., Tex Devereaux, Fred Devereaux, Orville Archdale, Wallace Archdale, Isiah Devereaux, Arthur Devereaux, and Quinten Devereaux; an adopted mother, Eunice Abrahams; and numerous aunts including Mary Ann Richardson of Williston, Olivia (Fred) Buckles of Seattle, Delores Kern of Poplar, Carla Red Thunder of Poplar, and numerous uncles, and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his father, John Red Thunder Sr.; mother, Linda Red Boy; maternal grandmother, Jeanette Etta Cloud Youpee; paternal grandparents, Ione and Seth Red Thunder; brother, Kenneth Eugene Devereaux Jr.; sister, Denise Conklin; grandfather, Orville Cloud; uncles, Calvin Red Thunder Sr., Daryl Red Thunder, Gary Youpee, Joe Youpee, Thomas Youpee, and Lester Youpee; cousins, Denise Red Thunder and Rocky Clark; and nephew, Mathias “Whitey” Fast Horse.

A wake will be held 7 p.m. Friday, February 21 at the Cultural Center in Brockton. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 22 at the Cultural Center in Brockton. Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Brockton. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
