Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin made her journey to Heaven to become an angel for her family on August 27, 2023 at the Billings Clinic, Billings, MT.
JoAnn Russell was born 72 years ago to Vida (Walking Eagle) Muskrat and Daniel Russell on February 16, 1951 at the Poplar hospital in Poplar, MT. Mom grew up in Poplar and attended schools in Poplar, later earning her G.E.D. JoAnn married Darrell Reddog, Sr. in 1968. They were married for 18 years, to this union 4 children were born. They later divorced but remained friends up until Darrell’s passing in 1999. Her longtime companion David Tuttle.
She began her career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Old BIA) as a Realty Clerk for many years. Also working for the Fort Peck Tribes TERO department and as a Process Server for the Tribal Courts. Mom loved cruising, being with family and friends joking, had a warm heart and great sense of humor. Always has a smile making someone laugh or teasing. She will be remembered by her compassion for others and being there for family.
JoAnn is survived by daughter Farrell (Dennis) Simons, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Sister Bonnie Menz, many nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to mention.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Vida Muskrat and Daniel Russell, her sister Catherine Russell, and Isabel, her three brothers; Ralph and Lewellyn, Davey, Desmond, Sr., and John Muskrat. She was preceded in death by her daughter’s; Tammy and Tracy Reddog, sons; Darrell Red Dog, Jr. and Richard Russell. Special Grandsons Maurice Morsette and Lane Ferguson; Special Granddaughters Roxanne Morsette and Kristen Ferguson.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the LDS Church in Poplar, Montana. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the LDS Church in Poplar, Montana. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery.
