James Lynus Buckles Jr. (Sonny) passed away at 9:11 a.m. May 14, 2025 at Billings hospital in Billings, MT. He was born to James Buckles Sr and Gerladine (Scott) Buckles on July 10, 1961in Poplar.
He attended school in Poplar and also at Ultimate Canteen in Chamberlain, SD in 1975 and Boys Town, Nebraska, in 1976 after graduated from Poplar high school, in May 1979 he went on to Job Corp for heavy equipment and graduated from Fort Peck Community College. He moved to Blair in 1983 and lived there until his passing, He loved living out in the country.
He joined the Red Eagle Presbyterian Church on April 23, 2000, Reverend Simon Looking Elk was their Pastor then. He raised Jr and Fred off and on through the years, unfortunately he got in a car accident east of Fort Kipp on June 30, 1997, he was at a rehab center in Billings.
He enjoyed watching his grandson Fred play basketball all 4 years of high school in Culbertson, he enjoyed listening to music on his stereo and also watching wrestling on TV.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents James Buckles Sr. and step mother Monica (Adams) Buckles; mother Geraldine (Scott) Buckles; grandparents Fred and Lorena Buckles; uncles Thomas Buckles, Duane Buckles and Ronald (Pat) Buckles; cousin Ronald Buckles Jr; grandson Asher Wayne Lester.
He is survived by special friend Darlene Left Hand and Vernon Turning Heart and his special fur baby Spazzie; special grandsons Sebastian Lester and Roman Emmerson; brothers Barry Buckles, Kevin (Lavonne) Buckles and Patrick Buckles; sisters Cheryl Fox, Agnes Sissy Little and Pamela Medina Buckles; nephews Calvin (Jr) Lester, Frederick Lester, Michael Medina, Patrick Little, Patrick Buckles, Jovaughn White Hawk, T.J. Buckles, Josiah Bouchie; nieces Adriann Buckles, Kaileen O’Brien, Amanda Buckles, Aggie Little, Kassie Buckles, Mariah Medina, Kelly Bouchie; Kasten and Tenneyson Lester, Kodey and Nixon Lester, Kaniel Ricker; granddaughters Aden Black Dog and Presbly Lester; uncles Fred (Olivia) Buckles, Bobby Dean (Mary) Buckles.
We are thankful for the life he shared with us. He will be missed very much by his family and grandchildren.
