Henry Buck Elk

Henry Buck Elk Jr., was raised in Ft. Kipp and attended Brockton Schools; where he set a record in track.
After schooling he married Violet Martell, from this union they raised 8 children.
In the early years he moved to Denver, CO where he graduated from mechanic school. He graduated well before the rest of his class. Henry was always a very skilled carpenter. He owned his own contracting company and worked with his son Wendell, and his sons-in-law. Through all his life skills, he made life long friends. He farmed with his father, Henry Sr. and loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Dad’s greatest joy was his family. His grandchildren were his life, along with many great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild (Peanut).
Henry passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 in Ft. Kipp at the age of 77.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nancy Buck Elk; father-in-law, Daniel Martell Sr.; mother-in-law, Lucille Chopper; brothers, Darryl K. Buck Elk Jr., Wilson Shields, Ronald Small, Edgar “Homer” Buck Elk, and Everette “Sharon” Buck Elk; children, Rudolph “Rudy” Martell and Thalia Buck Elk; nephews, Brian Olsen Sr., Emmanuel Buck Elk, Christophe Buck Elk, Darryl “D.K.” Buck Elk, Louis Buck Elk Jr., Louis Buck Elk Jr., and Jeremy Chopper; nieces, Andrea Davis and Brandi Crazy Bull; grandchildren, Adam Black Dog, Sierra Follette, and Kyle Martell; in-laws, Frank Hapa, Franklin Chopper, and Abraham Chopper Sr.; sons-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Olsen and Verle Follette; adopted children, Georgie Dupius, Karla Cantrell, Dani Red Bull, Jennifer “Missy” Bearcub, Debbie Hopkins, Lorraine (Buck Elk) Bear, Debbie Old Person, and Wynn Hall.
Henry is survived by his wife, Violet Buck Elk; children, Wendell “Chico” (Donette) Martell, Mary Follette, Teresa (Michael) Jaymes, Darryl Buck Elk, Yvette Olsen, and Janel (Darin) Little Light; siblings, Myrtle (Frederick) Olsen of Lebanon, Oregon, Esther Hapa, Phyllis (Cedric) Prairie Chief of Oklahoma, Louis (Leanne) Buck Elk of Ft. Kipp; in-laws, Priscilla Carpenter of Fort Kipp, Vernon (Donna) Chopper of Yankton, South Dakota, and Aletha Chopper of Ft. Kipp; nephews and nieces, Fredrick Olsen Jr., Doreen, Michael Olsen, Anthony Olsen, Doreen Olsen, Charles Small, Elliot Small, Joel Small, Jolene Small, Euron (Didi) Davis, Tamara Firemoon, Nanette (Wayne) Strange Owl, Jeremia Davis, Cedric Prairie Chief, David Prairie Chief, Leslie Buck Elk, Elijah Buck Elk, Tiffany Buck Elk, Joseph Buck Elk, Carlos Buck Elk, Darice Buck Elk, Sylvia Buck Elk, Angel Buck Elk, Jhalane Chopper, Anne Chpper, Venice Chopper, Frank Chopper, Nicky (Maurice) Bighorn, Jolene Jones, Bear Chopper, and Wendy Chopper; grandchildren, and great grandchildren too numerous to mention; one great granddaughter, Calista “Peanut” Gong; extended families, Comes Last, Eder, Cantrell, Crow Belt, Boyd, Thomas, Firsts, Pipes, Walking Eagles, and Emanuel Running Bear family.

A wake will be held 7 p.m. Friday, December 10 at the James Black Dog Center in Ft. Kipp. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11 at the James Black Dog Center in Ft. Kipp. Interment will follow at the Ft. Kipp Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
