Harold Buck Elk

November 4, 1954 — February 2, 2014

Our beloved Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2014, surrounded by family, in Salt Lake City, UT. Harold Lynn Buck Elk, “Pahin”, age 59, was born on November 4, 1954 to Alice and Warren Buck Elk in Poplar, MT.

Harold was raised in Ft. Kipp, MT and graduated from Brockton High School. He then went onto receive his Baccalaureate Degree in Accounting as well as his Associate’s Degree in Business Management from Rocky Mountain College. He received his MBA from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Following his graduation, Harold returned back home and for a short time worked for the Ft. Peck Tribes and then for a number of years at West Electronics before establishing Ft. Peck Tech Services in May 2004. His goal was to create jobs for the reservation and give back to the people and he was always saying how proud he was of the entire Ft. Peck Tech Services staff. Harold received recognition for his hard work, such as the Minority Small Business Person of the Year for Region 8 in 2012.

Harold also enjoyed traveling for work, spending time with his family, catching up and finding out “what’s the latest”, laughing, telling stories, joking around and would also never let you live down any embarrassing moment. He enjoyed eating, hunting, fishing, hide tanning, baking, cooking, sewing and was also a self-taught carpenter and loved building picnic tables and wishing wells. Harold was very caring and generous, many turned to him for advice and guidance. He liked to pass on traditions and was always willing to help those that were in need. He believed that everyone deserves a chance when others wouldn’t. He encouraged and was a huge believer in bettering yourself through education.

He is survived by his sister Eileen Buckman and brother Warren (Geraldine)Buck Elk Jr. His four “rays of sunshine”, Clayton (Dondee) Dawes, Tiana (TJ) Eder, Lesley Buck Elk and LaToya Buck Elk. He is survived by his “mini rays of sunshine”, Terrell Dawes, Maxx Dawes, Gwen Dawes, Aria Grey Bull and Talullah Day. Harold is survived by his adopted sons Dimitri (Pam) Ricker and family, Andre (Dallas) White Bear and family, adopted brother Enright (Cindy) Big Horn and family, and special nephew Raymond (Becky) Grey Bull who he adopted as a brother and family. He is survived by aunt Winifred Thomas.  He is survived by many beloved family and friends too numerous to mention.
