On Wednesday, August 26, 2026 our brother Alan made his journey home to Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is no longer in pain nor shall he suffer any longer. He was met with much great love by family, friends, and pets that went on before him. And now lives with boundless love, peace, and joy in the promise land. Alan was born Gordon Alan Mail on June 25, 1964 in Poplar, MT and was 62 years old when he passed away at the Providence of St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula, MT.

Alan attended a few grade school years in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. And then the family moved home where he attended a few more grade school years, all of Jr. High and 1 year of high school in Wolf Point. Returning to Poplar for the remainder of his high school years where he excelled in wrestling, weight lifting, choir and band where he played the trumpet. Alan graduated from Poplar High School in 1982. Upon graduation he attended Eastern Montana College in Billings, MT. He was a member of the college choir and had the honor of performing (along with the college choir). As part of the opening act with Susan Anton at the Kenny Rogers concert at the Metra Park Arena. He also played the trumpet very well and was often called to pay “Taps” at somebody’s funeral. He also attended college in Bozeman, MT and Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is Colorado where he met the love of his life, Sandra Lopez-Carreras which he later married in her home town of San Juan, Peurto Rico. From this union was born a daughter, Alexandra Mariette Mail, who sadly preceded him in death in 2018.

Alan held various jobs throughout his life, and as follow are the ones we remember. He worked for the tribes with Carl Fourstar as his boss, for a lengthy period of time he worked for the Poplar Water Treatment program, he was a firefighter, he worked in the oil fields. He worked at the animal clinics with longtime friend and boss Teddy Kashabe. He worked for the tribes again driving the “sugarbeeters” to and from work. Alan had a great love for and was passionate about music. If you knew a song but couldn’t remember the lyrics or who sang it, all you have to do is call Alan and he would have the answer for you every time. He truly was a rockstar. Alan liked to visit with family and friends, he liked to crack jokes and had a wonderful sense of humor, he enjoyed good food, liked walking around or riding his bike (when he had his legs) picking turnips (when in season) and picking plums. He knew where all the good plum trees were and tried to keep them a secret, but gave in when falling ill.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon R. and Gwendalyn G. Mail; brothers, Gary and Wendell Mail; daughter, Alexandra; special niece, Ashta Clark; sister, Marilyn Mail and his most recent loss, longtime friend and companion, pet cat- Hex, in which he was still morning.

He is survived by his brother, Russell (Verdis), Lee Marie (Derrick) Red Elk of Pocatello, Idaho, Brian Jack and TJ Mail of Poplar; sister, Gwen (John), Mickey, Halli Clark, Josh Clark, Ash and Keshton Clark of Poplar; nephews, Wendell Jr., Willy, John David Mail; niece, Patti Jo Mail of Wolf Point; niece Juliann Mail of Wolf Point.

Our dear brother will be dearly missed, and the memories we shared will be deeply treasured. And the day will come when we will be reunited, but until then he will live on in our heart and memories.

Funeral service will be held at Poplar Cultural Center at 1pm.  Tuesday, Sep.8, 2026, with burial to follow at Poplar City cemetery with Manny Smith officiating.
