Earlene Sexton

June 21, 1940 — July 23, 2024

Earlene Adelynn (Ludwig) Sexton, 84, went to be with our Lord and Savior July 23, 2024 at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point, MT.  She suffered years of declining health and passed due to complications in her lungs.

Earlene was born on June 21, 1940, the second of twin girls to Magdalena and Earl Ludwig in Baker, MT.  She spent her childhood on the family farm in Plevna with her 3 siblings, twin Ethel, Marilyn and Alvin.  She told stories of the farm and having to watch their step everywhere they went for rattlesnakes.  Her family moved to Wolf Point for her Junior year of high school then moved again to Circle where she graduated high school in 1958.

Earlene worked as a Secretary at the Farmers Union Elevator, the SouthSide Elementary School for 18 years and for Schuster Law Offices.  She then worked for the Farmers Home Administration in Wolf Point and was then transferred to Glasgow to work at the Rural Housing Development.  After traveling 120 miles a day for 9 years, she happily retired in 2004.

When Earlene was going to school in Wolf Point, she met her future husband Wally who was working at the Farmers Union Oil gas station.  They married on August 28, 1960 and would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

To this union was born Lori in November of 1961 and Melissa in February of 1967.  Her girls were her life and she was a wonderful mother.  Earlene was a quiet woman, her daughters always thought it was because Wally talked so much that she couldn’t get a word in edgewise!  She passed her kind loving demeanor and gentle heart to her first daughter Lori and her love of music and reading to her youngest Melissa. They both got her stubborn streak!  Earlene loved to travel with her girls on work trips and shopping expeditions. She also loved to go on camping trips with them.

Other than family time, Earlene enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing on the computer and cooking for her family, especially Sunday dinners.  She did that as long as she was able and boy was she a great cook!

Earlene and family sadly lost Lori in February of 2016.   Lori’s death took a large piece of Earlene’s heart with her.

When Earlene’s health declined to a point where she could no longer live at home, she made it easier for her family and made the decision herself  to go to the Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.  She was the fastest resident on 4 wheels!  All of the staff commented on how speedy she wheeled herself with her legs up and down the halls.  Wally and Melissa just hung on to the handle bars and ran or got drug after her!

Earlene was preceded in death by her daughter Lori Sexton-Toews, her parents Earl and Magdalena Ludwig, great nephew Ian Kunesh and brother in law Gene Brost.

Earlene is survived by her husband Wally, her daughter Melissa, sisters Ethel Brost and Marilyn (Jerry) Heitz,  brother Alvin Ludwig, son in law Herb Toews and lots of wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews including former sister in law Gloria Ludwig.

Earlene’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and CNA’s at Trinity Hospital for the compassionate loving care she received in her last days.  They would also like to thank ALL the staff at Faith Lutheran Home for taking care of Earlene for the 2 years that she was a resident there.  It is not an easy job that you do.

We are thankful that Earlene is at peace and no longer suffering.  We rejoice and take comfort that she will reunite with her Lori in Heaven.

Matthew 5:4  Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted
