DeWayne Carl Shoots Sr. of Poplar was our son, father, cousin, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend who peacefully left us and made his journey. He was born on April 11, 1974, the son of Isabelle Shoots; he fought and lost his battle with cancer. One of the greatest joys that calmed our broken hearts was when DeWayne gave his life to Jesus; how wonderful it is to know he is in the presence of our Savior. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be morning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
DeWayne lived most of his life in Poplar and several other places such as Portland, OR, Rapid City, SD, and Spokane, WA, and lived off and on in Billings, MT; Dewayne attended school in Poplar and was a Poplar Indian fan for life. He was also a fan of the New England Patriots football and loved every time they went to the Super Bowl; He would say, “That’s my team forever.” Upon growing up, DeWayne was always our protector and greeted us with a vast, captivating smile when we needed him to figure out what was wrong with our vehicles. He was always willing to take the time to give us support and try to figure out solutions. Dewayne loved to go for rides in the countryside with his friends. His adventures would take him to learn new card games, and he was up for a challenge in horseshoes. Dewayne was fond of his friends and took them as his adopted brothers and sisters in our native culture. He reminisced about the day he’d meet and be reunited with his three best friends: Leo, Emery, and Franky D.
DeWayne is survived by his mother, Isabelle Shoots, son DeWayne Shoots J.R, Demarko Shoots Lilley, daughters Rushanna Nadvornik and grandchildren, Angeline White, uncle Jacob Shoots Jr., aunt Alice Aguilar, sisters Esley Sherman, Janene Shoots, brother Darwin Melbourne, grandchildren, Satveva, Selena, niece Leena Sherman, Kyyen Left Hand Thunder, Brittaney Walking Eagle, nephew Shane Left Hand Thunder, Keenen Left Hand Thunder, Carlus Jones, Collin and Bret Red Boy, a special friend Priscilla Jones.
