Dale Warren Romo was born on October 26, 1949, to Paul & Ella Halvorson Romo, in the late evening hours in Williston, ND. He joined older brother Lawrence, and soon they welcomed brothers Leland and Alan. Growing up on the farm south of Bainville, Dale and his brothers drove to their grandparent’s house before and after school to milk their cows. While Dale was in 7th grade, his dad passed away. The boys took over the farming operation with the help of their Uncle Lester.
Throughout High School, Dale was very active in basketball, football, and FFA where he won gold in the livestock judging competition at the National FFA convention in Kansas City. During this time, he discovered his love for music. What started out as the Dale Romo band turned into the Shotgun Creek band. Music was a staple throughout his life, he played at various weddings, anniversaries, dances, and many special events. He met so many people who turned into lifelong friends, whom he cherished deeply.
After graduating High School in 1967, Dale went to college in Billings. Shortly after that, Dale decided to further his education of being a mechanic, transferring to attend Northern College in Havre, MT. While at Northern, Dale met the love of his life Rochelle (Rocky) Berge. After college, Dale moved back home to the farm and joined the National Guard in 1969. Dale was active in the National Guard for 27 years and inactive for 14 more years after that.
In 1970, Dale and Rocky got married in Wolf Point. They soon welcomed their 3 children. Paul born in 1973, Cody in 1975, and Danielle in 1978.
The brothers purchased their first piece of property, often referred to as the Rhea place. This was the start of the Romo Brothers partnership, which became a very large part of Dale’s life. Dale quickly became the go-to mechanic and was always ready to lend a hand when equipment broke down. Dale graciously taught his children and grandchildren all he knew with lots of consultations with Austin.
Dale had many passions in life. Including family, faith, farming, livestock- particularly horses, along with music. Dale held a plethora of jobs throughout his life. He AI’d cows, was a livestock inspector for Northeast Montana, worked at the elevator, he also helped out during beet harvest for a friend for many years.
He trained, raised, and showed his own quarter horses. He was passionate about team roping, especially with his son and grandson. In 2015, he defied the odds and was able to get out in the arena again. Dale was a very successful heeler. He won many buckles, saddles, and even sometimes brought a purse home for Rocky.
Dale is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rocky. Two children, Paul (Joanne) and Danielle. Two grandchildren Austin and Adaani. 3 brothers, Lawrence (Judy), Leland (Terry), Alan (Rayne). A sister-in-law Pauly and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
