Clyde “Papa" Bauer entered heaven on September 7, 2026. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at the Billings Clinic Hospital. Clyde was born on August 11, 1943 to Otto & Ella Bauer in Beulah, ND. He was the 10th of 13 children.
Clyde’s paternal grandparents came to the United States from South Russia around 1902. They eventually had a family of 15 children. Clyde's dad Otto was the 5th child of the 15 and was the first child to be born In the United States.
At the young age of 14, Clyde's mother sent him to Poplar to help care for his sister, Marion and her small children. It was there he met Anita Red Thunder. Clyde & Anita married on May 29, 1965 and soon after welcomed 3 children, Val, Michelle & Robert.
Clyde worked various jobs in the oilfield starting in 1959. He later moved to construction in 1970, beginning as a carpenter for C & M Construction; eventually working his way to a finish carpenter. After years in the construction field, he began his job as the Inspector for Fort Peck Housing Authority in 1982. Earning his state certification was a high light of his career. After 31 years at Fort Peck Housing he retired, in July of 2013.
He enjoyed his retirement fixing things, tinkering in the garage and watching his grandchildren play sports. Family was important to him. He was affectionately referred to as Papa by all of his 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, who meant the world to him. Papa truly loved all his family unconditionally.
He stayed up to date and involved in all the family activities from sports, to concerts and just everyday life in general. If something needed fixing Papa could fix It. If you needed something Papa probably had It in his messy garage. If he didn't, it somehow miraculously just showed up.
He loved to read the paper and he had a sweet tooth (which he liked to hide from grandma). He especially liked chocolate donuts, cookies, maple sticks & old-fashioned Christmas candy. Did he ever love his lawn mowers! He was always working on or riding on one with one of the grandchildren.
Clyde was one of a kind and will be missed by many. A world without Papa Clyde is sad, however to be so sad means we have experienced a great love. There is not enough time to say all the great things that could be said about the man he was.
He is now reunited with his parents, siblings and other loved ones. Oh, how him and his brother, Dennis were a pair! They are happy to be reunited.
Clyde is preceded in death by his parents Otto & Ella (Brunmeier) Bauer, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his six sisters - Marion Sandau, Loretta Bazler, Leila Caywood, Lora Wiedrick, Betty Hausauer, Stella Gramm, his 5 brothers - baby boy Bauer, Lester, Lloyd, Robert and Dennis and his great granddaughter Scarlett Culbertson.
He is survived by his wife Anita, his daughters Val (Mike) Gorder of Poplar, Michelle Bauer of Billings and son Robert Bauer of Billings. His 7 grandchildren and their families - Jamie (AJ) Culbertson - Alexus (Cal), Bella and Asher Culbertson; Christopher (Philline) Gorder-Jazmin, Cali, Caydee, and David Gorder; James (Brittani) Gorder-Rebecca and Brodyn Gorder; Cole (Kate) Gorder-Bronc, Gunner and Kopper Gorder; Layne Gorder and Paul Brien; Jake Fisher (Brittany) - Destiny, Jacob & Haylee Fisher; Clay Haney (Miranda) -Eleanor Haney; sister Linda (Jack) MacDonald of Santa Cruz, CA and family, sister-in-law Sharon Bauer of Beulah, ND and family, and numerous other nieces, nephews and many other family members.
