Anthony Wisespirit

May 2, 1958 — January 29, 2022

Anthony “Tony” Wise Spirit, age 63, of Poplar, Montana, went to be with the Lord on January 29 th , 2022.

Tony was born on May 2, 1958 to Genevive Boxer and Owen Wise Spirit in Poplar, Montana. Tony was raised by his grandma, Josephine Kidder Gray Hawk.

Tony attended Poplar schools while growing up and finished with obtaining his G.E.D at South Western Indian Polytechnic Institute (S.I.P.I) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He enjoyed his time there as he was an avid basketball player. He was very confident on the court and there was no stopping him once he had that ball in his hands.

Throughout his life, Tony worked for A&S Industries, as a seasonal wild land fire fighter, as a game warden, as a police officer, and as a detention guard for the Fort Peck Tribes. Tony also completed Montana Law Enforcement Academy (M.L.E.A) in Helena, Montana and the Federal Law Enforcement Training (F.L.E.T.C) in Artesia, New Mexico. He obtained a certificate from each academy and was very proud of himself.

Tony enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, going to Pow-wows, traveling, and listening to Country music. He loved visiting with family and friends and talking about old times. He loved to have singing practice and sing with all the boys in the “Red Roc” drum group and traveling to different powwows to sing.

Tony enjoyed spending time with his baby girl, Antoinette, in the summer time. They would plant and grow tomatoes, water them, and harvest them.

Tony instilled in his children and grandchildren to never forget where their roots came from and to carry their last name “Wise Spirit” proudly.

Tony is survived by his children, Benji Wise Spirit, Jason (Mabel) Wise Spirit, Antoinette Wise Spirit, Gerrie Herrera, Morning and Season Wise Spirit; grandchildren, Shawn Wise Spirit, Jaymin Wise Spirit, Nadalyn, Nathen, Clarence, Nadden Spotted Wolf, AiYanna Wise Spirit, Leighton Wise Spirit, Morgan Wise Spirit, and Kyleena Wise Spirit; brother, Russell (Francine) Boxer; sisters, Beth With Bull, Mary Lou Azure, Madonna Azure, Lisa Boxer, and Liz Graham; aunt, Arden Boxer; and uncles, Tony Boxer, and Sherman Boxer.

Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Genevive Boxer and Owen Wise Spirit; his son, Joseph Wise Spirit; brothers, Harvey Wise Spirit, and Michael Wise Spirit; uncles, Chiefy Boxer, and Lenny Boxer; and aunts, Sharon Boxer, and Corrine Brown.

Tony has many more relatives too numerous to name, many from the Standing Rock Tribe and Fort Peck, but he loved you all.

Pops,

You were the best dad we could ask for. We will always love and miss you.

-Jason and Antoinette.
