On March 5, 2015 at the Trinity Hospital surrounded by family and friends, a very gentle Assiniboine elder passed this earth to be with God, her loving husband Joseph and daughter Laura.
Annabelle White Eagle (Good Hearted Woman) was born on June 3, 1922 to Jesse (Wetsit) and Edward Bearskin in the family home at Lohmiller, Montana. Annabelle attended High School in Poplar. On April 12, 1946, she married Joseph White Eagle and they moved to Tacoma, Washington. Here Joseph started training to be a welder at the Bermerton Navy ship yards since jobs were hard to come by on the Reservation. They had five children, whom they raised in Washington, California, North Dakota and Montana.
Annabelle loved to cook and bake and so if a relative was having a birthday party, wedding, anniversary, a wake or funeral, she was the first one there with a pie, cake, fry bread or maybe a couple of salads. During her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and fringing shawls. She also loved to travel and visit friends and family. In the last couple of years, her daughter Margaret took her everywhere. She would visit friends and family in Glasgow one day and Williston the next. All her friends and family knew her as “Grandma, Cuz, Sis or Aunty” and if you needed something all you had to do was ask and she would help if she could.
She is survived by her children, Darrell (Karen) of Casper, WY, Georgianne Fish of Great Falls, Margaret Payne (Carl), Joseph White Eagle (Sandra) of Wolf Point and adopted son Curtis (Marisha) Ball and 15 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her parents Jesse and Edward, siblings George Bearskin and Edith Thompson and Daughter Laura.
