Anna Louise Martell Syverson, affectionately known as “Peewee,” passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, just three days shy of her 82nd birthday, at Billings Clinic Hospital. She was born on June 26, 1943, in Blair, Montana.
Anna made her home in Culbertson, Montana, where she built a life full of love, laughter, and hard work. She was the mother of Julie Finsaas Trudell and Rhonda Erickson, with whom she shared a unique and lasting bond. She especially enjoyed road tripping with her daughters and spending long, meaningful phone calls—moments that brought her real joy. When she married Kenny Syverson, she welcomed five bonus children—Kent, Kevin, Kyle, Debbie, and Pam Syverson—into her life.
Her greatest joy was her family—her grandchildren: Josh (Rachel) Erickson, Abrianna (Shane) Wahlstrom, Chad (Andrijana) Trudell and Lana Trudell, James Trudell, and Cedar Erickson—and her treasured great-grandchildren: Cullen Klemetson, Josephine Erickson, Samuel Erickson, Navy Wahlstrom, Graham Wahlstrom, Roe Wahlstrom.
Kevin Syverson and family, Kent Syverson and family, Deb and Dennis Brevick and family, Skyler and Hunter Carnes and family, Kolton Carnes and Coleman Wenzl, Josten and Jacob Sargent and family, Dreysyn and Kayleigh Bratcher, Ryah Young and Jake Nelson and family, Anistyn and Taryn Candee and family.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Anna worked countless jobs throughout her life: waitressing, painting, cleaning, and even roofing alongside her husband. There was no task too big or too small—she never turned down a job and was admired for her tireless work ethic and fierce determination.
Anna had a wicked sense of humor, a radiant smile, and a laugh that could light up any room. She never wanted to miss a thing—her energy was boundless, and she greeted life with open arms. She loved to shop, find treasures at rummage sales, and spent many joyful hours at the Culbertson Senior Center. A woman of deep faith, Anna was a faithful member of the Catholic Church.
But more than anything, Anna loved people. Her many friends in Culbertson were like family, and her door—and her heart—was always open.
She is survived by her siblings, all of whom she loved deeply: Lee Anthony Raffael (known to many as “Kip”), Marie Baron, Tim Raffael, and Rose Martell Adler, as well as her niece and nephew, Jamie and Bobbie Tipton, who held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by Bill, a seagull who visited her every summer for over a decade—she would call his name, feed him, and talk to him as if he were an old friend. In time, he brought along his bird family too, creating a small, joyful tradition she treasured.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Syverson; her daughter, Pam Syverson; her mother, Lois Martell Raffael; her grandparents, Charles Martell and Sophie Lambert; and her siblings, Jo Tipton and Ike Raffael.
She leaves behind a legacy of strength, warmth, and laughter that will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
